Well, I haven't posted here in a while, what with one thing and another.... but no, I'm not going to start posting excuses. For one thing I'd just start rabbitting, for another - well, let's just say my excuses occasionally have made things even worse.

From a pagan point of view the year is moving onwards, changing gears. There's a real change in the air now and it's not just the lousy weather we've been having. I've been around long enough to remember summers just as cold, wet and downright wintery as this in the past. But look around and you'll see for yourself... the headgerows change colour for a start. After the solstice they are noticeably deep pink (mostly foxgloves) and yellow.

When I was younger I used start thinking of Christmas and winter once we reached July - this was a bit of a bummer since I hadn't even broken up for the Summer holidays then! However, in terms of the cycle of seasons this sudden lurch towards winter is perfectly normal. After all, the days really are shortening again. It might be barely perceptible, but we have passed the high point of the Summer Solstice and we are - like it or not - heading towards the Winter one!

But maybe we could just have a few summery days in the coming months.... please???
