driving through rainbows

by tylluanpenry @ Tuesday, 11. Mar, 2008 - 16:24:34

Well, one rainbow, actually. On the weekend I was coming back over the Brecon Beacons and we actually found ourselves driving through a rainbow which ended on the wet tarmac in a sort of golden puddle.... maybe that's where the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow story comes from.

Anyway, it was an amazing experience - the light around us was quite something. I always thought that the closer you got to a rainbow, it just moved away from you, but this one stayed put.

It's never happened to me before and it was quite magical! :)

...and you didn't capture it for prosperity? Oh Tylluan, how could you...

I didn't have my camera with me - sorry! :(

I'll forgive you... just this once mind you. ;)

Thanks, Usky! Wish you could have seen it though! Have you ever photographed rainbows?

I've photographed one or two from a distance, but have never been that close to a rainbow to see the golden shadow. :)

It was wonderful - and so unreal in some ways. I'm not sure I could have done it justice, even if I'd had my camera....

That sounds wonderful.
Once in a lifetime, too.
I think I'd have been tempted to park my car there and wait to see what happened!

Unfortunately it was the busy A470 and we couldn't stop. But just passing through it was wonderful, and I was surprised the way the light changed. I'd always thought that the closer you got to the rainbow, the further it moved away.

That really does sound wonderful. I've never had that experience either. How very magical.

Strangely enough, my parents said it had happened to them once when they were young. It was a wonderful experience.

Those mystic arcs are wonderful when you have the rare fortune to capture one in your sight and memory.

For all I'd consider myself a cynical old bat, the sight of a rainbow always starts me off going 'oooh' and 'aaah' :)

I'm sure it must be - but it was well worth waiting for! :)

I love rainbows! They are so awesome. Once I was driving past an agricultural field (sadly without a camera) and they were irrigating it. You should have seen the beauty of it all! There was a field filled with rainbows. There had to be 100 of them...breathtaking!

Thanks for the reminder

That sounds amazing - I love making rainbows with the hosepipe when I water the garden sometimes.

I don't think I've ever photographed a rainbow - perhaps it's time I tried.

Oh, you lucky woman. I've always wanted to find the end of a rainbow. What a magical experience!

It was astonishing, Ellie. I wish I'd been able to hang around and savour it longer. But I'm sure I'll never, ever forget it!

I've had a number of omens just lately, Mira - not sure what I make of some of them. But the rainbow was definitely a good one, and yes, I do feel blessed. That's just the word I was looking for! :)
