Today I should have had plenty of time to write... only of course it never turns out like that, does it? And it was just getting to the interesting stage, Chapter Thirteen, Plants and Festivals, all about making Straw Bears and Wicker Men and setting fire to things and the Devil's Nutting Day.... well, you get the picture. After a month writing about using plants to deflect curses it made a welcome change.
I can't say I wasn't warned. I went to the dentists, but despite being first appointment of the day, was an hour late being seen. Then the tap began to drip, then dribble and finally it was gushing and sending so much spray across the kitchen that Mr Penry swore he saw a rainbow.
Now this tap (the cold water one) has been the bane of our lives for years. Getting it fixed must have cost about £100 in all and it never stays fixed for long. Youngest daughter and I dismantled it, discovered bits had broken off and died, and the whole thing was basically knackered. Phone the plumber who said he'd be along in a few days.
So I googled 'replace kitchen tap' and discovered that all British taps are made to a basic size. Except ours.....
I won't bore you with the details. We did fix it eventually, after almost flooding the kitchen, and several trips to our local DIY centre. But we now have two extremely peculiar looking (and non-matching) taps.
And I've yet to write a single word in Chapter 13 today.....![]()
Ah well, better luck tomorrow....Isn't it strange that I still believe in fairy tales?

I think I need to read your chapter on plants to deflect curses. Maybe I should grow some of them in the front garden.

Today has been a bummer.
