Gratitude....

by tylluanpenry @ Monday, 12. May, 2008 - 20:49:19

Lighting a candle was a traditionally pagan way of connecting with whichever deity you honoured. Although the early Christian church tried originally to discourage the practice because of its pagan and heathen connotations, eventually it adopted it, especially in the ROman Catholic Church.

This website : http://www.gratefulness.org/lighting candles (NOTE : this link should be : http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/enter.cfm?l=eng ) is a lovely place to visit when you would like to light a candle for whatever purpose in your life. It could be to hope for something, to heal someone or to give thanks for something. THe choice is up to you.

Hope you enjoy it!

It is amazing how many pagan rituals were 'adopted' by the RC Church. Including building churches on the crossing of lay lines, held in reverence by early dowsers

Yes, that's very true. Basically the early church tried to assimilate the pagan traditions, and any that could not be absorbed in this way were then demonised. You find it a lot with plants, too!

www.gratefulness.org is a wonderful site :) Mrs P. I've been going there for a few years now lighting candles.

They also have an " embed a code " for your blog. I don't think I can do that here as I'm not a " pro " member , but it works on blogger :)

There are other activities there too and beautiful cards that you can send.

I light candles often to connect with Spirit or absent friends or to focus on an affirmation.

I didn't spot the embed a code... I shall have to look for that, but to tell the truth I am so terrified of messing up my blog that I'm scared to tweak the design at all!

It's a lovely site though!

I'm sooooo going to that sight. For years I had 'issues' blowing out birthday candles because for me lighting candles is a sacred celebration!
