If you think you've seen an Unidentified Flying Object and are trying to eliminate the more mundane explanations a good site to visit is called Heavens Above. This lists all known satellites and gives maps of their orbits and when they are passing overhead etc.

Having had another look at these today, whatever I saw last night, I don't think it was the ISS satellite, as it was moving in the wrong direction.
