I like the Triple Goddess wand.
Mr. Penry is so clever and creative.
I have never seen anything like this before.
Thank you, tylluane.-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 16:24:16
I like that one too - it was one of the first he ever sold, although he can make a few rosemary wands that are quite similar every year from the huge rosemary bush in our garden. Glad you liked them!
-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 17:41:42
Mr. Penry made it from a rosemary bush?
That, to me, is wonderful! I had no idea that rosemary is so tough.
Delightful. I just learnt something else today! I must go and tell David.

When it gets old, Rosemary gets quite 'woody.' Traditionally spoons (or even sticks) used to stir the food were supposed to make it more nutritious, while a box made of rosemary wood was supposed to keep its owner ever young!
-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 20:15:03
How lovely! I had no idea. I would love some to stir the soup with. I shall lookabout on Google.
Thank you. I also hear that Rosemary is a healing herb too.-

It is indeed - and if you burn it on a charcoal block it makes fantastic incense.

what a lucky lady you are to have such a ready source of lovingly crafted wands at your disposal x
-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 16:25:26
I'm very lucky indeed - and I know it! He made me a beautiful altar this year, too. When it stops raining I'll try and get into the garden and photograph it.

These wands speak, they move, they live with the wood from which their shapes are created.
You didn't by any chance supply the wand shop in HP land, or, are these wands for muggle use only?-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 16:26:57
Thank you Menhir!
No Mr Penry pre-dates Hogwarts and Diagon Alley... his wands have a magic all their own! (He makes magical staffs too - some of them are just incredible!) -

I am particularly attracted to wands No.1 and No.3.
I wonder if they have certain in-growing lay lines or some such. Ostrich feathers or fiery whatever, flying creature inputs, would not do for me.-
- Wednesday, 22. Jul, 2009 @ 08:38:41
No.3 is made from ivy wood and is Mr Penry's personal favourite. No. 1 is made from ash wood. You and Mr Penry think alike about these wands - he believes it's all about the wood... the very thought of ostrich and phoenix feathers etc., would appal him.

We still have the other half of the phoenix feather wand to see perform.
Have you seen The Half Blood Prince (Part 1)?
Getting back to Muggle land, our reality, I do think those natural wooden structures provided by Mr Penry, are wonderful.
Are the staffs a longer/taller version of the wands? One more question, do you ever travel with the wands?

bless Mr Penry ! Beautiful wands, they are. You will have fun with those

I bet he does ! I have a lovely staff / walking stick that I bought last year in Avebury , though it was grown and made in Glastonbury , I think.
What wood does Mr Penry use ?

At the moment he uses spotted laurel, rosemary, ash, ivy and holly. Though he has made a very nice wand from hebe wood. It all depends what he has stockpiled in his den.

The spiral top one is Yggdrasil and is made of ash... the same as the Zephyr wand!

That's interesting, perhaps I require an Ash wand! Just had a thought does Mr Penry make Staffs too?
-
- Wednesday, 22. Jul, 2009 @ 08:35:42
Yes he does - usually of spotted laurel (which has a nice, golden colour to it) although he also has a nice stang (forked at the top) made of holly.

They are wonderful indeed. It's a great talent to be able to work with wood.
-
- Tuesday, 21. Jul, 2009 @ 16:30:16
I'd love to be able to work with wood - and he does it all with a knife and some sandpaper, no special tools. He reckons that's how wands would have been made long ago....

They really are wonderful. I love that third one from the top. It feels very vintage witchy.
